… male and female, He created them

Title

EED’s gender strategy follows a two-pronged approach: integration of gender analysis and measures into all its programs and procedures and targeted funding of projects committed to improving the lives of women. The annual report before you takes a look at this latter aspect of our gender strategy.

EED mourns the passing away of Dr. Badal Sen Gupta

(7.12.2006) Yesterday we received the sad news of the demise of Dr. Badal Sen Gupta. He passed away while participating in a workshop in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Badal was a colleague in EED from 1972 to 2002. In his last position he headed the consultancy department of EED.

Badal was a visionary and a charismatic personality. He also was a major architect of the policy change of the German Protestant church development organisations during the seventies and eighties. His ideas on the concept and realisation of Grass Roots Development appealed to many and remains relevant even today. Badal worked relentlessly for dialogue between cultures and political affiliations. He has formed a generation of development thinkers and practitioners, here in Germany, in South Asia and South Africa.

Badal leaves behind his wife Ulla Sen Gupta, our colleague, and the children Joy, Monique, Siddhartha and Ravi. We will always remember his warmth and generosity. We mourn the loss of not only a highly esteemed colleague but also a friend.
