… male and female, He created them

Title

EED’s gender strategy follows a two-pronged approach: integration of gender analysis and measures into all its programs and procedures and targeted funding of projects committed to improving the lives of women. The annual report before you takes a look at this latter aspect of our gender strategy.

Reintegration Programme

You will find quite a number of very qualified and committed persons originating from the South, having completed their academic studies or professional training in Germany. Their potential contribution to the development in their home countries is immense. Many of those graduates would like to give back what they have learned during their studies.

The Reintegration Programme for Professionals offers these qualified and committed persons the possibility to contribute their gained knowledge and competence to the development of their respective home countries. As this programme enables reintegrants to establish a professional future for themselves in their country of origin, it provides at the same time the employing partner organisations with fresh and up-to-date knowledge. It thus contributes to a more sustainable and effective development in the countries of the South.

Commitment for development

The reintegrants being recruited by EED to be seconded to partner organisations must have proven their commitment and interest for development issues, especially during their time in Germany. They have to trace sincere interest and dedication to engage themselves in the fight for poverty reduction, for justice, peace and the preservation of creation.

EED endeavours to find a position for the reintegrant within its own network of partner organisations. However, it is also possible for applicants to make their own suggestions or to make contact with, usually, church related or other social service institutions and non-governmental organisations. EED then assesses whether these suggestions can be pursued.

General principles

The reintegration shall take place in the country of origin. The employing partner organisation should be willing and able to integrate the reintegrant into its own development-related work.

The reintegration contract period lasts either 24 months (for applicants with up to two years of professional experience) or 36 months (for applicants with two and more years of working experience) and cannot be extended beyond this period.

On the basis of the provisions of the Reintegration Programme, the professional is entitled to benefits granted by EED for the term of the reintegration contract like travel costs, a reintegration allowance, and health and accident insurance for the first three months after departure.

Local salary

As the “reintegration package” of EED does by no means replace a salary but only provides an allowance to make the reintegration in the country of origin easier, the partner organisations are expected to contribute to the living expenses by paying a local salary to the reintegrant or arranging free housing. The partner organisation is obliged to provide the necessary conditions for the professional to take up duty and carry out the envisaged tasks. These include social and medical insurance coverage and e.g. job-related travelling expenses.

In general the reintegration programme aims at securing permanent employment within the partner organisation.

Your request to EED

If you are interested in a secondment of a reintegrant, send us a request containing the following points:

  • Description of your organisation
  • Description of the project requiring the reintegrant's work
  • Aims and objectives to be reached with the reintegrant's cooperation
  • Job description

Please be aware that it will generally take several months until we have identified, selected and prepared an appropriate candidate to serve your request. Please be also aware that patience and mutual understanding are the prerequisites for a successful reintegration process as experience has shown that after their return, the reintegrants usually need some time to readjust in their society of origin. Still, an evaluation of the reintegration programme has shown a high level of satisfaction within the partner organisations as well as among the respective reintegrant.
