… male and female, He created them

Title

EED’s gender strategy follows a two-pronged approach: integration of gender analysis and measures into all its programs and procedures and targeted funding of projects committed to improving the lives of women. The annual report before you takes a look at this latter aspect of our gender strategy.

40 years of Churches' Development Service

(Berlin, 16.10.2008) The Protestant churches in Germany have celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Churches' Development Service in commemoration of the adoption of the resolution of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) from October 1968 that led to the foundation of the Churches' Development Service.

"The Churches' Development Service (KED) belongs to the nucleus of Protestantism", Bishop Dr. Huber pointed out in Berlin. On behalf of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Dr. Rogate Mshana underlined that the churches need each other to continue the struggle for justice and peace. Regarding to the ongoing injustice in the world he advocated for the definition of a greed line corresponding to the internationally established poverty line. This could be an instrument that helps the people to overcome greed. The service that followed the celebration was led by Bishop Schindhütte. Bishop Dandala from the All African Council of Churches addressed the 100 participants from the churches and the German Parliament with his sermon in the historical Friedrichstadt Church in the centre of Berlin.

After the foundation of the EED the office of the Churches' Development Service (KED) was integrated into the new organisation EED and moved to Bonn.
